CLASSES AGE 2-4

This class is wonderful introduction to dance for very young child! Dancers will explore the wonders of dance through songs, games and props in a relaxed setting that teaching them the basic or participating in a group class while letting the explore all that dance has to offer!

This class begins with a Circle Warm-up that may include sing-a-long songs or rhymes to keep the young dancer engaged. Students then move to Centre Work where dancers learn basic ballet steps and vocabulary. Students will work on strong arms, stretching their toes, balancing, twirling, and Jumping during centre work. Students then move to the Across the Floor section of class where they practice locomotor movements that will later translate to many different dance styles. These steps may include: gallops, skips, walks, jumps, & leaps.  Fun songs and activities such as the freeze game and moving like animals are used throughout the class to enrich the learning experience. The class ends with a free-dance with props to a worship song and then Reverence where the students bow to thank their teachers and classmates

Children’s Tap classes begin with a short warm-up of the feet and ankles, followed by practicing and learning progressing tap steps. Students then work on increasing the speed of steps and combining steps together while trying to make the correct sounds.  The class ends with a fun combo or routine of combined steps in choreography. This is a rhythmical, fun-filled class class for all children!

These high-energy, fun-filled classes begin with a warm-up consisting of high energy movement patterns and percussive, repetitive movements. The students then work on traveling movement patterns across the floor and finish by learning a short choreography phrase combining steps they have been working on.

Children’s company is open to ALL students ages 6 and up who are enrolled in a minimum of two classes. Mini company is open to ALL students ages 4-5 who are enrolled in at least one class. Companies are focused on worship and outreach and are perfect for the dancerwho loves to perform and wants to perform all season long! In addition to the May concert. company dancers get to perform in the December and April concerts as well.

This class focuses on technique, strength and flexibility. EXCEL students will perform in the April concert and are highly encouraged to participate in the company as well. EXCEL goes beyond the basic dance class with emphasis on technique.It will prepare your young dancers for a strong future in dance as well as placement in upper division EXCEL classes and special performing groups. Dancers must attend an audition before enrolling.

CLASSES AGE 7-9

Ballet students begin with a floor warm-up to prepare the body for class and work on strengthening the muscles needed for ballet training. Students are introduced to the barre work in this class, a big step for little dancers! At the barre students work on training their muscles to hold turn-out and maintain balance through basic steps such as plies, tendues, releves, and rond de jambes. After Barre, students move to the centre to practice balancing, jumping, and small combinations of steps. The class then moves to the corner for Across the Floor Work  where students work on large locomotor steps as well as musicality as they combine steps together.Towards the end of class students will work on deep stretches such as splits and enjoy a free dance to a worship song. The Class ends with reverence, a bow to thank teachers and classmates for a wonderful class

Modern dance is a fun and creative class that allows  students to gain technique  while exploring creatively. The class begins with a warm-up that focuses on building strong technique and placement. Students then progress across the floor with movement patterns and finally skills including leaping, jumping, rolling, and galloping. Students will work on combining movements together to create movement patterns and explore their own movement with improvisation exercises

Children’s company is open to ALL students ages 6 and up who are enrolled in a minimum of two classes. Mini company is open to ALL students ages 4-5 who are enrolled in at least one class. There is a strong emphasis on training and conditioning the body first through floor exercises, then at the barre, and lastly in the centre portion of class. Students end the class with jumping and locomotor movement exercises that move across the floor and build the dancer’s strength and coordination. The final act of the ballet class is reverence, a slow moving “goodbye” dance where students thank the teacher and fellow students before leaving.

Students in Modern/Jazz class spend one month focusing on modern technique and the next month focusing on jazz technique. The modern classes begin with floor and centre work that focuses on articulation of the spine and body awareness. The class then moves to movement phrases or “progressions” that travel across the floor and transition the dancers to the jumping and leaping exercises that will end the class. Modern classes will include improvisation exercises where the students will learn to create and explore their own movement patterns. Jazz classes focus on strength, speed, and precision. They begin with a warm-up in the centre and then move to progressions across the floor that include foot work, turning, jumping and leaping.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL CLASSES

This class is for young dancers (ages 11 & up) that have passed beginning ballet; and is also a great starting place for teens with little experience. Our Advanced program is for students who wish to train seriously and take their dancing to the next level. The Excel program prepares the student for possible future study at the college or pre-professional level. There is a very strong focus on technique and artistry. Dancers must audition to be placed in these classes every season.

Tap

This class is for advanced tappers with a considerable level of experience. Students must audition into this class.

This class is for advanced dancers with a minimum of 3 years experience. Placement is by faculty recommendation.

Teen Ballet is the perfect class for the teen who has danced for years and wants to keep it a part of their busy lives, as well as those who are new to dance and want to explore all it has to offer!

With a focus on Jazz technique as well as modern floorwork and improvisation, this class is perfect  for the teen who has danced for years and wants to keep it a part of their busy lives, as well as those who are new to dance and want to explore all it has to offer!
